Our Story

Humphreys Street, a social enterprise of Harvest Hands CDC, was born out of a desire to raise up leaders within our neighborhood by creating jobs, providing mentorship opportunities, and teaching job skills that empower youth such as customer service, marketing, and craftsmanship.

Where it all started

Harvest Hands CDC was founded in Wedgewood Houston to provide a place for kids after school

Humphreys Street is Founded

Humphreys Street, the social enterprise of Harvest Hands, was founded as a way to engage teenagers in the neighborhood and teach basic work skills through roasting coffee and soap making

First roaster acquired

A formal business plan was created, and Humphryes Street received funding to purchase a commercial coffee roaster

Production Ramps up

The production facility and roastery moved from Wedgewood Houston to Napier Sudekum, to the new Harvest Hands Community Center

Grand Opening

Grand opening of our coffee shop in Wedgewood Houston

Bridgestone Arena Location Opens

Opening of the Humphreys Street Coffee Kiosk at Bridgestone Arena

When a local teen applies for and receives a job at Humphreys Street, they are trained in a highly skilled craft and are given the opportunity to earn money in a neighborhood where few positive economic opportunities exist.

Humphreys Street employees have the opportunity to tour colleges, learn about trade school options, and spend time with career mentors. Additionally, students are provided with financial literacy training, checking and savings accounts, and opportunities to earn academic scholarships upon graduation.
