A note from our Co-Founder & Executive Director, Brian Hicks
Hi friends,
A lot of you have asked us recently when we’re going to open the indoor portion of our shop. The short answer is: we will not open the inside of the shop until there is a vaccine or the virus reaches exceptionally low numbers in the US. We are so grateful for your continued support through visiting our walk up spot and ordering online!
Here’s why we made this decision: we don’t hire students to make coffee — we make coffee to hire students. We exist for a mission, and the reason why we aren’t opening our shop indoors is precisely because of that mission. Our student employees and their families, who are our neighbors in Napier-Sudekum, are largely Black and Latino. The data is clear—these populations are more adversely affected by COVID-19 than their white neighbors. In order to continue existing primarily for our mission, we will remain outdoor and to go only until there is an opportunity for this virus to be defeated.
We miss having you in our space and we are humbled to know that you miss being there as well. We have always wanted to be a place that is loved by our neighborhood, but more importantly, we strive to be one that loves our neighborhood well.
Thank you for continuing to Drink Good Coffee for a Change!
Your friend, Brian
